Data Extraction form - setup

There are three possible ways to setup DE form::

  • Load default template - If the default template is missing, you can set it in the templates library.

  • Pick template from templates - your organisation may have already prepared templates ready to reuse in the similar projects so that you can use and modify them.

  • Start from scratch - if you want to build your own Data Extraction form, you can do it by choosing the 'Use an empty form' option.

Remember to create data extraction form first, otherwise you won't be able to conduct the next steps, like task distribution.

Start from scratch

If you choose the 'Start from scratch' option, you can build your data extraction template from scratch, creating new tabs and sections. Check here how to build a Data extraction form.

You can also  import single data extraction sections from other data extraction templates.Start by creating a tab, then click Import Section and follow these steps:

  1. Select the template from which you want to import fields.

  2. Choose the sections from this template that you want to import.

  3. Select the intended tab and click Import.

If the form is ready for the current project, click the ‘Save form’ button. Now, you can go back to the stage dashboard and continue its configuration.

Pick from templates library

If you want to choose one of the already prepared Data Extraction templates, please select 'Pick from templates'.
In the dialog you will see a list of available templates to be uploaded and all domains they contain, which can help you decide which template fits the most.

Remember that each uploaded into the project data extraction form can be modified and saved as a new, separate template at organization level.

You can add more than one data extraction form (or part of it) to the form you’re working on. For example, if you want to extract data and perform a risk of bias assessment in a single data extraction form, after uploading the main data extraction form, go with the following steps:

  1. Create a new tab (ROB2) in the data extraction form and click Import Section.

  2. Select the relevant template.

  3. Choose the sections from this template.

  4. Select the tab where the section should be imported and click Import.

Note that you can import many domains from different templates.

Preview

You can test a pre-prepared template using Preview mode. Please note that you should first import at least one PDF into the tool.

In Preview mode, you have access to both the data extraction form and the PDF, allowing you to verify if the data extraction was set up in a way that makes it easy to extract. This also helps ensure that no fields or connections were missed.

Please note that in terms of AI models, in this view you only have access to automated table extraction, not to the models that extract data from text. These models begin generating suggestions once the study is distributed to extractors.

Data entered in this preview will not be saved.
